Home organization

In the past year of staying home with my son I realized there were a lot of ways I could help our house run more efficiently or make better use of space. Below are some ideas I have found and implemented.

TODDLER PLANNER:
My sons weekly planner of things that are going on at different parts of the day. Each card is color coded for different categories. They are magnetized on a white board, so we can use the magnet cards or we can just write with a white erase marker.

INTERACTIVE BOARD:
Our daily interactive board. My son loves to change the day of the week and the date every morning. We talk about the colors, shapes and numbers. Below the frame are small plastic bins with the numbers and days of the week. The paper and felt are stuck on with Velcro.

 MENU PLANNER:
clothes pins painted and with pieces of paper with painted letters.

Old window painted to create our menu planner.  On each half of a note card the front of the card has the food to be made with the serving size, cookbook with page number, and WW points value.  The back of the note card has all the ingredients needed for the recipe.

BOOK NOOK:
We had a hall closet that was becoming a junk closet. I built a bench and put a piece of furniture underneath the bench that we use to store shoes and some games.  The cushion is actually a dog bed that I cut the foam inside the cover to allow it to bend.
Shoe cubicles
Shelf above book nook to store cleaning supplies and such.
Painted the inside a fun bright color and got the coat hook from Hobby Lobby and repainted the knobs to match the wall color. The mural inside is from one of our favorite books called Ferdinand the Bull

ART CENTER:
Our art center...this helps keep us organized and I can't wait until my son is old enough to really use it without assistance!
Salt dough people painted and glued to a note card labeled with what is in inside the container.

DISPLAY ARTWORK:
We make a lot of art so I have taken the window above my sons play area and hung fishing line with clothes pins to display his artwork. The clothes pins make it so easy to switch in and out.

CHRISTMAS JESSE TREE:

The Jesse Tree is named from Isaiah 11:1: "A shoot will spring forth from the stump of Jesse, and a branch out of his roots."  It is a vehicle to tell the Story of God in the Old Testament, and to connect the Advent Season with the faithfulness of God across 4,000 years of history.

To help our family keep Christ at the center of Christmas I made this Jesse tree and we read different passages of scripture each night in the month of December.

Each ornament is made with a combination of sewn fabric and paint.  (If you would like a Jesse Tree for your Christmas let me know!  Your Jesse Tree could have less ornaments, the pockets can be different colors, and the tree can be a different design.)

Back of the ornaments have the character, theme and verse.
